This blog is a continuation of a previous blog titled “The Power of Thank You – What it Means to Your Inner Power.” In the final episode of the first season of Mind Power, Rachel Krider and her husband, Shane, discuss how a 180 degree shift in mindset brings an instantaneous 180 degree change in results and the way you experience life. See below for a retelling of a shift in mindset from Shane’s perspective.

Say a person gets going in life, and they have things that they perceive as injustices that happen to them. I can list out my own real easy. By the time I was about two years old, I started having allergic reactions to everything. I couldn’t go out and play often because I was allergic to the grass and had asthma. I wasn’t too happy about that.

Then I started going to school. I didn’t get to go out and play enough, so my mind tended to wander. Now I get going in school and I’m sitting there imagining things instead of paying attention. The teacher doesn’t realize that I’m not paying attention and allows me to get away with it to the point that I have no idea what’s going on in class. Then they start to ask me all these questions and I’m just giving them the blank stare because I don’t even know what they’re talking about.

So I got off on the wrong foot in school and continued to be on the wrong foot. It’s one thing after another, and then of course when you’re that kid in class the other kids will notice. Especially the kids who like to torment will realize that you’re a little bit out of step so you become an easy target for them.

Some people have the exact opposite story. They’re on top, they’re on purpose, and they’re paying attention. Then all of a sudden throughout their life, it ends up being that all the work falls on their shoulders.

Whatever way you go in life, it seems like you can get to a point where you can start to build up a little bit of resentment or feel like the deck has been stacked in your favor. As you become that person, you start to think that way and perceive things that way. You become very tuned into that and everything that starts to happen to you in your life from that point forward reflects that to some degree.

It is to that degree you are not motivated to make things awesome. You are not motivated to be of the greatest service and value that you can. You’re not motivated to value and enjoy and get the most out of every experience of life because you’ve got this story running in your mind about what everything means.

Have you met one of these people where they think every conversation had undertones and little meanings? Like they’ll say things such as “Did you see when Mary said this?” or “Did you notice the way she was looking at me when she said that?” You think you had a great time, but after talking to that person you’re wondering if there were things you shouldn’t have said.
